Top 10 Most Evil Men in History

The most unfortunate aspect to researching this list was the realization that that I could do a top 100 most evil men and still have a multitude of people for a second list! The selection of this list is based not upon death tolls, but upon the general actions, and impact, or brutality of the people. From bad to worst, here are the top 10 evil men in history.
10. Attila The Hun
Atilla
Attila was Khan of the Huns from 434 until his death in 453. He was leader of the Hunnic Empire which stretched from Germany to the Ural River and from the Danube River to the Baltic Sea. In much of Western Europe, he is remembered as the epitome of cruelty and rapacity. An unsuccessful campaign in Persia was followed in 441 by an invasion of the Eastern Roman Empire, the success of which emboldened Attila to invade the West. He passed unhindered through Austria and Germany, across the Rhine into Gaul, plundering and devastating all in his path with a ferocity unparalleled in the records of barbarian invasions and compelling those he overcame to augment his mighty army. Attila drowned in his own blood on his wedding night.
9. Maximilien Robespierre
Robespierre
Maximilien Robespierre was a leader of the French revolution and it was his arguments that caused the revolutionary government to murder the king without a trial. In addition, Robespierre was one of the main driving forces behind the reign of terror, a 10 month post-revolutionary period in which mass executions were carried out. The Terror took the lives of between 18,500 to 40,000 people, with 1,900 being killed in the last month. Among people who were condemned by the revolutionary tribunals, about 8 percent were aristocrats, 6 percent clergy, 14 percent middle class, and 70 percent were workers or peasants accused of hoarding, evading the draft, desertion, rebellion, and other purported crimes.
In an act of coincidental justice, Robespierre was guillotined without a trial in 1794.
8. Ruhollah Khomeini
Khomeini 78
Ayatollah Khomeini was the religious leader of Iran from 1979 to 1989. In that time he implemented Sharia Law (Islamic religious law) with the Islamic dress code enforced for both men and women by Islamic Revolutionary Guards and other Islamic groups. Opposition to the religious rule of the clergy or Islam in general was often met with harsh punishments. In a talk at the Fayzieah School in Qom, August 30, 1979, Khomeini said:
“Those who are trying to bring corruption and destruction to our country in the name of democracy will be oppressed. They are worse than Bani-Ghorizeh Jews, and they must be hanged. We will oppress them by God’s order and God’s call to prayer.”
In the 1988 massacre of Iranian prisoners, following the People’s Mujahedin of Iran operation Forough-e Javidan against the Islamic Republic, Khomeini issued an order to judicial officials to judge every Iranian political prisoner and kill those who would not repent anti-regime activities. Many say that thousands were swiftly put to death inside the prisons. The suppressed memoirs of Grand Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri reportedly detail the execution of 30,000 political activists.
After eleven days in a hospital for an operation to stop internal bleeding, Khomeini died of cancer on Saturday, June 04, 1989, at the age of 86.
7. Idi Amin Dada
Amin 1809 Narrowweb 300X423,0
Idi Amin was an army officer and president of Uganda. He took power in a military coup in January 1971, deposing Milton Obote. His rule was characterized by human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extra judicial killings and the expulsion of Indians from Uganda. The number of people killed as a result of his regime is unknown; estimates range from 80,000 to 500,000. On August 4, 1972, Amin issued a decree ordering the expulsion of the 60,000 Asians who were not Ugandan citizens (most of them held British passports). This was later amended to include all 80,000 Asians, with the exception of professionals, such as doctors, lawyers and teachers. Amin was eventually overthrown, but until his death, he held that Uganda needed him and he never expressed remorse for the abuses of his regime.
6. Leopold II of Belgium
Leopoldii
Leopold II was King of Belgium from 1865-1909. With financial support from the government, Leopold created the Congo Free State, a private project undertaken to extract rubber and ivory in the Congo region of central Africa, which relied on forced labour and resulted in the deaths of approximately 3 million Congolese. The regime of the Congo Free State became one of the more infamous international scandals of the turn of the century. The area of land privately owned by the King was an area 76 times larger than Belgium, which he was free to rule as a personal domain through his private army, the Force Publique. Leopold’s rubber gatherers tortured, maimed and slaughtered until at the turn of the century, the conscience of the Western world forced Brussels to call a halt.

5. Pol Pot
Polpot Vzoom
Pol Pot was the leader of the Khmer Rouge and the Prime Minister of Cambodia from 1976 to 1979, having been de facto leader since mid-1975. During his time in power Pol Pot imposed an extreme version of agrarian communism where all city dwellers were relocated to the countryside to work in collective farms and forced labour projects. The combined effect of slave labour, malnutrition, poor medical care and executions is estimated to have killed around 2 million Cambodians (approximately one third of the population). His regime achieved special notoriety for singling out all intellectuals and other “bourgeois enemies” for murder. The Khmer Rouge committed mass executions in sites known as the Killing Fields. The executed were buried in mass graves. In order to save ammunition, executions were often carried out using hammers, axe handles, spades or sharpened bamboo sticks.
4. Vlad Ţepeş
Vlad02
Vlad III of Wallachia (also known as Vlad the Impaler) was Prince of Wallachia three times between 1448 and 1476. Vlad is best known for the legends of the exceedingly cruel punishments he imposed during his reign and for serving as the primary inspiration for the vampire main character in Bram Stoker’s popular Dracula novel. In Romania he is viewed by many as a prince with a deep sense of justice. His method of torture was a horse attached to each of the victim’s legs as a sharpened stake was gradually forced into the body. The end of the stake was usually oiled, and care was taken that the stake not be too sharp; else the victim might die too rapidly from shock. Wikipedia has an article that describes, in great details, the methods of Vlad’s cruelty. The list of tortures he is alleged to have employed is extensive: nails in heads, cutting off of limbs, blinding, strangulation, burning, cutting off of noses and ears, mutilation of sexual organs (especially in the case of women), scalping, skinning, exposure to the elements or to animals, and boiling alive. There are claims that on some occasions ten thousand people were impaled in 1460 alone.
3. Ivan IV of Russia
Ivan-The-Terrible-2-Sized
Ivan IV of Russia, also know as Ivan the Terrible, was the Grand Duke of Muscovy from 1533 to 1547 and was the first ruler of Russia to assume the title of Tsar. In 1570, Ivan was under the belief that the elite of the city of Novgorod planned to defect to Poland, and led an army to stop them on January 2. Ivan’s soldiers built walls around the perimeter of the city in order to prevent the people of the city escaping. Between 500 and 1000 people were gathered every day by the troops, then tortured and killed in front of Ivan and his son. In 1581, Ivan beat his pregnant daughter-in-law for wearing immodest clothing, causing a miscarriage. His son, also named Ivan, upon learning of this, engaged in a heated argument with his father, which resulted in Ivan striking his son in the head with his pointed staff, causing his son’s (accidental) death.
2. Adolf Hitler
Adolfhitler
Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany in 1933, becoming “Führer” in 1934 until his suicide in 1945. By the end of the second world war, Hitler’s policies of territorial conquest and racial subjugation had brought death and destruction to tens of millions of people, including the genocide of some six million Jews in what is now known as the Holocaust. On 30 April 1945, after intense street-to-street combat, when Soviet troops were spotted within a block or two of the Reich Chancellory, Hitler committed suicide, shooting himself while simultaneously biting into a cyanide capsule.
1. Josef Stalin
Joseph Stalin
Stalin was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union’s Central Committee from 1922 until his death in 1953. Under Stalin’s leadership, the Ukraine suffered from a famine (Holodomor) so great it is considered by many to be an act of genocide on the part of Stalin’s government. Estimates of the number of deaths range from 2.5 million to 10 million. The famine was caused by direct political and administrative decisions. In addition to the famine, Stalin ordered purges within the Soviet Union of any person deemed to be an enemy of the state. In total, estimates of the total number murdered under Stalins reign, range from 10 million to 60 million.
Bonus: Emperor Hirohito of Japan
Hirohito
Hirohito was the Emporer of Japan from 1926 to 1989. In 1937, Japanese troops committed the war crime that is now known as the Rape of Nanking (the then Capital of China, now known as Nanjing). The duration of the massacre is not clearly defined, although the violence lasted well into the next six weeks, until early February 1938. During the occupation of Nanjing, the Japanese army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, looting, arson and the execution of prisoners of war and civilians. A large number of women and children were also killed, as rape and murder became more widespread. The death toll is generally considered to be between 150,000 and 300,000. The Wikipedia article contains images and descriptions of the atrocities committed.

Wow, not one single guy from US ! That is somethin

Yep, I guess Mao belongs to this list too.

Number one americans atom bomb users at japan wars at veitnam iraq afghanistan iran much more

LOL one of my kings is on this list

America has little history compared to the rest of the world.

lifted straight from listverse...

The French should be on the list too. LOL

What about Rafael Trujillo from the Dominican Republic? He was pretty bad.

I can think of five that are really sick that are not on this list. I wouldn't necessarily replace five here with all five of mine, but some of them should probably be in the top ten --

1. The anonymous writer who wrote the ancient Indian Purush Sukta, which is the scriptural rational for ancient India's caste system.

2. The first "thinker" who ever formed the doctrine that the indigent can starve already and travelers can just go thirsty, Brihaspati.

3. The destroyer of Athenian democracy, Critias.

4. The instituter of the Inquisition and the first one to make persecution of the Jews official church law rather than just a practice, Pope Gregory IX.

5. The first extant "thinker" in the post-Middle Ages to advocate mass genocide of any kind, Jean Meslier.

Stone

The Queen. Rothschild. Murdoch. Dick Cheney

2 comments: 1.Ruholla Khomeini looks like a living version of achmed the dead terrorist. 2. Where is Osama bin Laden people? And Saddam Hussein? do u people not know what they did i mean they were horrible people at least 1 or 2 of them should be here plz look into it.

Ok first of all Napoleon was pretty bad too...
Secondly I agree with one of the other comments usama bin laden and sadam hussein should be there
Thirdly Kim Jong ill and Omar gadaffi are becoming a pain in the gluttes too
Fourthly what about the whack jobs like that guy from Arizona who killed all those people at the supermarket, Charles Manson got some people high made himself a god in their eyes and told them to kill, Jim Jones he said he was god took thousands to Jonestown somewhere in South America and forced them to suicide, and the kid who thought he was a vampire and killed to suck their blood
Fifthly this is ripped off of listverse.... LOL

how is sudam husan or howvever his name goes, not in there?
he was like the devil's servant

Suddam and Osama aren't on here because neither they, nor their actions have effected the entire world in such a gross and vulgar way as these other men. Also, they mainly do what they do, especially bin Laden, because of Ruhollah Khomeini and his implementation of Sharia Law. Running some planes into some buildings for Allah doesn't really compare to invading, detaining, then gassing to death an entire religious sect or forcing a nation-wide famine through governmental practices just because they created their OWN opinion about a certain type of person or people. Osama: "god says hate toy and kill you, so I hate you and kill you". Hitler and Stalin: "I don't like your face or how you tie your shoes, so I'm going to hate you and kill you and everyone that might be like you".

Also, Manson only did what a countless number of people have been doing since the first deity's creation. I mean, what's so hard about convincing a person of lower intelligence who's gullible that they are someone that they really know nothing about. I could say that I'm god, but how would you prove me wrong?

please include zaldy ampatuan.

Uhh, Robespierre? What you smokin', bro?

They need to make this list longer. Mao Zedong should be first and Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein should be somewhere with Ruhollh Khomeini Idi Amin and Pol Pot. Napolean Bonaparte could be added on this list somewhere also.

Mao zedong is not EVIL you retarded handicapped idiots!

actually squeeze mousillini right before hitler + justin bieber is definately #1

It’s a stupid fake list made to praise Zionist and US redneck mothafuckaz. it may be written by some kid working a 10hr shift for a few bucks whose source is bloody internet. We all know media is bloody taken over by US n fucking Zionist fagots.

u don’t have any US leaders in there who won America by killing millions of INDIANS and what about the smuggle of African people to US borders for over 200 years and how they were killed.

Bunch of bias amateur thoughts would not do you any good. read about the past 3 decades and most about the most recent that your BUSH regime has caused.

IRAQI war has killed over 10 million
Afghan war has killed over 6 million
On Pakistan borders more than 60,000 people have been killed by NATO and Marines bombing which are always on hospitals n schools.
Palestine: where millions have been killed by ball licking Zionist buttfucks.
than Bosnia: where millions have lost their lives in the past 3 decades.

you talk about 6 million jews being fucked in World War 2, WHERE THE DIVISION BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND INDIA CAUSED MIGRATIONS AND DEATHS OF MORE THAN 120 MILLION PEOPLE by the BRITISH REGIMES and yet they are no where close to this list.

what the fuck do u know.

To Anonymous (December 13, 2011 6:09 AM). I think youțre sick man. Go see a doctor!

To Anonymous (December 13, 2011 6:09 AM) - this guy might deserve to be an honorable mention.

there is so much wrong with this list. where is Nero? who puts Stalin ablove Hitler?

To Anonymous (December 22, 2011 9:29 AM) Come on, Stalin was much worse than Hitler. He murdered 100 million which makes Hitler an amateur.

This looks like a list of the ten most hated men BY AMERICANS!!!

This is in response to Anonymous (December 13, 2011) - I for one, and this is just me, one little small speck in a sea of billions...do see some of what your saying and what your trying to relay. There has been alot of death in the last three decades. Let's see why this is....Religion is the number one factor in the problem and killer, then greed and power. I blame this for the death of millions, being it a belief in higher power or just some fanatic taking something and twisting it into his or her own sick demented reality.

I think the purpose of this list was to list the top ten most evil men in history. I can say that the author did note that they could do a top 100 easily, but wanted to keep it short and simple to the top ten. Hitler and Stalin were monsters and deserve to be where they are on the list, as far as I am concerned they deserved to die in the most brutal way that could be dealt to any human being....slow and painful. I hope they burn in hell for all eternity. What makes them and people like them evil??? Well the answer is that they killed their own people who looked for a peaceful and rich life which every person deserves. They extinguished those flames in the most gruesome way possible. Any leader who can take a belief and impose it on the mass in a whole and then create death based on that belief is a devil incarnate. I am sorry to take your message of jews and disagree completely, you sir push aside what befell them very lightly just to point your finger at something which I find very offensive and that is this middle east feeling that people need to believe in certain ways...people (human beings) have short lives, they should live it anyway they want. (Freedom from persecution) on thoughts outside the mainstream. I say pray to garfield the cat if you want to, who cares.

As for the Indians, it was a genocide, they fought for their right and their land. But if you want to blame americans for this, your wrong again in your statement. I would blame Spain for starting that problem there, so quick in damnation aren't we!?!

Final thought---You bash Americans, you have the right to say whatever you want, but you also need to understand...that your words only show how one sided your thought process is. Using colorful metaphors does nothing to help your response and explain your side of things.

One more quickie, in response to Jan 1, comment.

(BY AMERICAN'S)???? Wow, Really???

So quick to turn a simple list into a hate american theme...some people I tell you.

khomeini shouldn't be in the list if u take a look at the part about the prisinor execution he cased that they be judge and asked for excution for those who didn't repent from actions against the revolution i think there is a difference between reblious actions and allowed critisisom not to mention that the islimic role was voted on be over 90% of the population the only resone khomeini is chossen because he is islamic (which aparently this website is RASIST taword) he lead a revoluyion against a dictating shah who killed his people but sadly was supported be the USA and khomeini also took a stand against the zionist regimwho since was created has been killing arabs and muslims and nobody cares

I'm suprised Hitler wasn't number 1. ever heard of Emperor Nero?

I don't think that this is really acurate. On one hand while Stalin was pretty fucked up he's not number one... Sorry to say but no... Second Hirohito didn't commit any atrocities in WW2. H was the ceremonial leader of the Japanese, the person who actually did all of that stuff was General Hideki Tojo of the Imperial Army. Other than that everything was pretty acurate. The Ayatolah should've been lower on the list though I think.

I think its funny people are complaining they're aren't any American's on this list. I'd like to point out that several countries aren't mentioned in this, for one simple reason: "They haven't had a person that would make it to this list" And if you think an American should be on here give me an example. Another point is that American History is much shorter than most people realize as a country it has existed for less than 300 years. But a couple of American horrors would include the following and many more: The Slaughter of My Lai (and many more horrors commited in War), The Trail of Tears (US persecution of Indians may be the worst), The Fire Bombing of Dresden (Contreversial), Nagasaki (Hiroshima may have been necessary but Nagasaki was overkill), The Toture at Guantanamo Bay (Human rights...) Anyway though America has done horrible things but I doubt any country is devoid of stains upon their past. Also I don't think anyone of those events could be placed upon one individual for America is a democracy, therefore only one man is normally not at fault.

The British should take number one spot.. they colonised the whole world and enslaved everyone.. who could match that

WTF can someone please explain to me why KHOMEINI is on this list???

He may have been a harsh and fundamental Islamist leader but he was in no way the eighth most evil man in history. And it is debatable whether he killed 30,000 people-according to wikipedia the numbers vary from 1400-30,000

When you say that the bombing of Hiroshima was justified, do you take into account the fact that it was the indiscriminate mass murder of more than 100,000 people?
You probably wouldn't say that the 9/11 attacks would have been justified if it was carried out to end a war.

Stalin was by far more evil than Hitler.

One more arrogant and usual ignorant citizen of US of America!

It sounds like more of your personal list than a well researched unbiased list!

How can you forget recent American invaders? How can you forget Saddam Hussein? How can you forget Netanyahu? Or is it you forgot these on purpose?

I pity you Americans who still think America is a continent and Asia is a country.

Wake up and see how you are ruled by a bunch of real dictators who fool you on every time

Fuck you all Jesus Christ is the worst ever 666

exactly Christ, our savior reigns!

justin bieber at#2 lebron james #1

The United States does not bomb hospitals or schools, Insurgents make their factories next to schools because they know we won't harm the children. cowards

in response to May 29, 2012 1:39 PM, america is two continents. fucktard. "It sounds like more of your personal list than a well researched unbiased list!" we worked with the USSR, in WWII. they weren't technically an ally though because we hated the USSR. Stalin killed more of his own people than Hitler did of Jews. maybe if you weren't so brainwashed by your leaders you would understand.

I think the founder of Islam, Muhammad, should have been mentioned somewhere. He is responsible for child rape, rape of captives, slave trade of women, murder and torture in the name of his religion.

What about Osala Ben Latin. He was super evil!!

Racist.. All these stuff are against his religion and people who commit them are punished severely.

Please include Kim Kardashian in this list, better on #1

Wow how confussed and in conflict can people be

Wow each person says ,well he did that he did this,What about pure evil for gain or for trying to make the populace believe in going their way. Incidently Moa has killed more of his people than another human being. His great leap forward had to be stopped before he wiped out china. All the Khans and all the inquisition could not match his acheivements. I think perhaps the spanish, the French and the English wiped out about three quarters of the american continent--just with the measles. I think America will have come full circle when a descendant of sitting bull sits in the white house

I am a bit perplexed why Moslem men are so derogatry to women in my country. The Moslems are very welcome, However when we take our children to the beach and have fun playing on the sand or in the water, they accuse us of being meat in the market as we have a bathing suit on and are really enjoying ourselves. Go Home unhappy people

Just a little thought if you don't agree with this list, why don't you compile your own list of people and their actions and your reasoning instead of complaing, degrading, and insulting others? ( I neither agree or disagree with the list) I personally found it interesting....

I don't think Attila belongs here. He could be cruel, but he was just as cruel as anybody else at his time. He has his honorable qualities to. He was a man of his word, and the main reason he attacked Rome was because they refused to give the Huns their yearly payment (Unlike Etherald the Unready, who SHOULD be on this list). He was known for treating his allies and all those loyal to them pretty well. (Unlike Pope Urban II who SHOULD be on this list) Often times he would free Roman Slaves and many foreigners who sevred the Huns served more out of loyalty than fear (Unlike Oliver Cromwell, who...Yeah you get the idea). He united a bunch of unorganized tribes who had done nothing but spill their own blood for years, and turned them into partners aligned towards a common goal. Don't get me wrong, he was NO saint...He killed a LOT of people, and even had two traitorous Huns impaled. But there are few people in history i'd consider "evil" and Attila is not one of them.

im surprised emperor nero aint on the list. He used people as human torches for miles cricufied thousands and forced early christians to have a symbol tattooed on their skin to identify themselves. Some peopel believe this is linked to the idea of being marked by the beast and that the erarly christian and jews seen nero as an embodyment of the devil himself.

Christopher Columbus, all American presidents since W. Wilson, with the exception of JFK, who tried to stop them.

Yeah, the lists of evil people in this world are very long. You really did great job and posted some most famous worst people names here. Thanks for providing this great list.
